The editing on this is great, making the most of a short scene without overstaying the life of the bit, and I especially love the zoom in at the end. Squish. That. Cat.

Description:

Oluwande lies sleeping on top of Jim in their bunk, his head on their chest. Jim is sitting up slightly to kiss Oluwande on the forehead. The bunk is coloured in warm orange tones, with Oluwande's teal earring standing out, and the pair are overlaid with orange hearts, halos and tattoos.

One of my favourite things about this artist's work is the layers of story they build into each piece, even the ones that aren't comics. I love the conceit of the added cartoon imagery over a more realistic style here, along with the usual little Easter eggs of graffiti. In between, the main focus is beautifully conceived and executed. The composition and poses, the palette, the tenderness of the embrace, the touch of eroticism in Jim's bent knee, and the overall intimacy—I just love this one.

So, magnavox_23 kindly offered to make me something recently, and I was like, "Oh, maybe the next time you make some Our Flag Means Death icons, you could make a Roach one, because I don't have any Roach icons." What I got wasn't a Roach icon. It was 28 Roach icons, each one of them absolutely gorgeous—funny ones, serious ones, sweet ones, Roaches for all moods and seasons, making the absolute aesthetic most of Samba Schutte's beautiful face.
