Song: "Seabird" by Alessi Brothers

Project Organizers' Description:
For many fans of Our Flag Means Death, and particularly for fans of Izzy Hands, one scene had particular gravitas. In this scene, Izzy went from his lowest—alone and angry, drowning his sorrows—to being given a gift. A gift of a prosthetic for his lost limb, and a gift of community. The crew saw that he was hurting and put aside their own issues to tell him we see you, we care about you, we want you here. We believe that you can grow past this and we'll help.

Importantly, the prosthetic was created from the figurehead of the Revenge, the unicorn. On sailing ships, figureheads have always been signifiers of the ship itself, images of protection, and the crew chose Izzy to embody this. They chose him as their new figurehead—someone to care about them and lead them. They chose Izzy to embody the spirit of the ship.

This is a message that resonated with Licorne. In Spring of 2024 they envisioned this project as a tribute to both the character of Izzy Hands and to Con O'Neill, who brought Izzy to life in such a captivating manner. The community rallied behind them, and we're proud to present the combined effort.

Much love.

This scene was one of my favourite moments of season 2, and is still up there among my favourite moments of television. "Much love" is an apt close to the message from the organizers, because the love put into this project by its participants really shines through, especially in the gallery where you can see each individual piece of art that came together to create something bigger in the spirit of collaboration and community.

Description:
A full-colour drawing of Jim Jiménez in their early s2 outfit, crouched down with their face turned away from the viewer. They hold a nonbinary pride flag, the splintered-off stick it's flying from braced against their shoulder.

I adore Jim's s2 looks, and this illustration captures all the structured and textured details of what they were rocking during the Breakup Boat episodes: the leather and buckles, the netting and rope, the undercut, and everything else that signals both baring and protecting themselves. The perfect vibe for a pride pose.

Ship: Fang/Frenchie/Izzy Hands/Roach
Medium: Art
Length: 1 piece
Rating: General/SFW
My Tags: slice of life, happy ending, established relationship, bed-sharing, cuddling, intimacy, sleep

Description:
A full-colour cartoon of Izzy, Roach, and Frenchie all using Fang as a mattress. Fang, smiling and radiating little pink hearts of affection, has his arms around both Izzy and Roach, while Frenchie has commandeered Izzy's backside as a pillow.

[profile] cliopadra's OFMD art always looks like it's straight out of Mad Magazine in the best of ways, particularly in their comics, which are usually crammed with background gags. Much as I love their absurd humour, my heart melted to see their squishy cartoon style applied instead to a sweet cuddle pile featuring four of my favourite characters.

Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Ship: Frenchie/Izzy Hands
Medium: Comic
Length: 1 page
Rating: Teen/SFW
My Tags: humour, happy ending, established relationship, izzy lives, pdas, trust

Description:
A four-panel full-colour comic based on a scene from the television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In the first two panels, Frenchie announces to a skeptical Lucius that Izzy would catch him if he ran at him and leaped into his arms. He then proceeds to demonstrate, despite the fact that Izzy is holding a cup of coffee.

This is a sweet, sunny comic that is completely made by Frenchie's enthusiasm, Izzy's expressions, and Lucius's closing line.

What to Expect When You're Not Expecting by [tumblr.com profile] house-afire
Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Ship: Fang/Izzy Hands
Medium: Fic
Length: 752 words
Rating: Mature
My Tags: character study, romance, happy ending, established relationship, izzy lives, fantasies, identity, domesticity, pillow talk, breeding/pregnancy kink
Summary: Written for the prompt "100 words of getting him pregnant", Fang has a hypothetical fantasy and Izzy indulges it.

Excerpt:
“Well, I can’t,” Izzy said. It came out blustery somehow, indignant and spitty and riled-up, like he was months back, talking to a peacocking Spriggs. “Have Roach explain it to you, if you’ve gone this long without—”

“I know how it works, boss.” Fang patted his stomach. His hand fell to the side of Izzy’s at first and then, almost shyly, straight on it. “Got nowhere to put it. But if you could.”

If he could. If he could, he’d still be a one-legged pirate past his prime, sailing on a ship where the crew was already vulnerable and downy enough without adding an infant in the mix. He had enough to take care of already. He had a child, he’d wind up throwing himself in the fucking sea.

This one got me straight in the feelings. It isn't just about Fang and Izzy doing a little kink discovery together, but about Izzy having a significant moment of pushing past his reflexive practical resistance and worries to try being fanciful with someone. I love how the author works Izzy's experience during Calypso's Birthday into it and sweetly and naturally extends what it means for a space to be safe.

Ship: Fang/Izzy Hands
Medium: Art
Length: 1 piece
Rating: Mature/NSFW
My Tags: romance, happy ending, backstory, behind closed doors, intimacy, kissing, touch, body hair, size difference, scars

Description:
A monochromatic drawing of a younger Izzy and Fang having a private moment in the hold of a ship. Fang is sitting beside a crate, one arm resting on it and the other around Izzy, who is straddling his thigh. His hand rests on the small of Izzy's back, whose shirt is rucked up to reveal a few scars and some loosened laces at the back of his breeches. Izzy is leaning forward, one hand on Fang's shoulder and the other taking hold of his beard. Both are flushed, Fang smiling warmly and Izzy's eyes half-lidded as he seems to lean in for a kiss.

One of my favourite moments from the series of livestreams Kristian Nairn (Wee John) had with his castmates was the session with David Fane (Fang) and Con O'Neill (Izzy), where David Fane answered a fan question about getting his beard pulled in an episode by characterizing as it as a painless "love tug" from Izzy—to which Con O'Neill immediately shot back innuendo about imagining that Fang and Izzy have shared plenty of "love tugs" in the past.

I love these character designs for Izzy and Fang, and the way their styling captures this being a different time and dynamic in their lives. Also, just really A+ size difference, and some very sweet expressions.

Characters: Frenchie/Izzy Hands

Length: 1 piece

My Tags: slice of life, happy ending, au: canon divergence, izzy lives, domesticity, flirtation, future, size difference
Artist's Caption: This is totally how S2 ended, I don't know what you're talking about.

Description:
A full-colour drawing of Frenchie and Izzy on the deck of their ship with a brilliant blue sky behind them. Izzy, dressed in his usual black, is standing contentedly with a cup of tea or coffee. Frenchie, dressed in his green shirt and embroidered waistcoat from the latter half of s2, is leaning forward with a smile to rest his chin on top of Izzy's head. Despite his crossed arms and gaze fixed forward, Izzy is leaning back against Frenchie. The wound on his forehead has healed, and the steam rising from his drink forms a small heart.

This piece reminds me of one of my favourite moments of season 2, which is when the traumatized crew have started to try to move on, and we get Izzy casually supervising everything on deck while whittling, with an exuberant Frenchie raising a new flag behind him. I love this, not just for the happy future it imagines but for the way the expressive cartoony style and bright colours convey it. There's so much story in the characters' body language here, and it's delightful.

Modern AU Fang naps on the sofa, a collie resting against his chest and a chihuahua nestled in the crook of his arm.

Like a lot of Fang fans, I have needed to see him get a new dog since 1x06. This sweet sketch from a collection of modern AU posts where Fang and Izzy have a rescue agility dog and a chunky senior chihuahua made me very happy. Peak coziness, with some excellently drawn pups and some obvious love for Fang's cuddly form.

Medium: Fic
Length: 7403 words
Rating: Explicit
My Tags: pwp, romance, happy ending, established relationship, au: modern, roleplay, medical kink, object insertion, sex toys, orgasm control, bdsm, watersports, backstory
Summary: Jack and Izzy—having first met when Jack was a patient on the hospital ward where Izzy worked—enjoy some kinky doctor's office roleplay.

Author's Excerpt:
“I’ll be performing the procedure, Mr Rackham,” informs the nurse dourly. “Then the doctor will review the report I write.”

“Oh,” sighs Jack, almost laughing with relief. “Cool, yeah, sweet.”

“Due to the invasive nature of the procedure, we like to give our patients as much privacy as possible. In this case, that means one-on-one treatment.”

“Right,” says Jack. “I should probably know your name, then.”

Does the nurse flush at that? Maybe. He’s looking down at the chicken scratch he’s hastily etching across the paper on his clipboard. “Izzy, but you will address me as Nurse when speaking to me.”

“Yes, Nurse,” Jack says, fast and breathless. “Thank you.”

This is tagged "Jack's body is a machine that converts trauma into psychosexual responses" and that (and the punny title - there is sounding) perfectly encapsulates up what I love about it. The story is funny, hot, and also deftly weaves in the origin of Jack's scars in this universe and the backstory of his relationship with Izzy.

Length: 1 piece

My Tags: character study, ambiguous ending, portrait, identity, denial/repression, gender, sexuality
Artist's Caption: I just love him so much, he’s so paintable 😭🥰

Description:
A layered digital portrait combining a full-colour depiction of Izzy Hands's drag look from the episode "Calypso's Birthday" (2x06) with a blue monochrome version of the character from what appears to be the duel in "The Art of Fuckery" (1x06). The monochrome paint is flaking away from the surface, baring gold seams reminiscent of kintsugi as Izzy sheds his skin to reveal the colours beneath. His mouth is open, season 1 Izzy shouting angrily while season 2 Izzy sings his torch song. One of his eyes is still covered, full of pain, while the one that's been bared seems to be looking forward more clearly.

This is just a fantastic idea, executed gorgeously. It captures an entire character journey in one striking image, wrapping up one of my single favourite scenes of the show in a perfect metaphor.
