Summary: Lan Qiren discovers the joy of learning new things after retiring and, while spending his afternoons at his favourite cafe, he meets Wei Wuxian and his son. (short but cute modern AU)

Sunflower Child by OccasionalArtist (8k)
Summary: Most young witches, the ones who live with their birth families, know that they are witches before their magic manifests. Most young witches don’t learn they are witches by turning their skin purple while trying to bake cupcakes for their best friend’s birthday.

Lan Sizhui, as he is learning very quickly, is not most young witches. (sweet modern-with-magic modern AU)

A rec-in-progress (aka a rec for an active WiP):

All the Apples on the Ground by SpaceCadetGlow (Our Flag Means Death, Izzy Hands/Calico Jack Rackham, Izzy Hands/Benjamin Hornigold, rated E, 53k words to date) is currently up to 8/? chapters of canon-era backstory with hurt/comfort, bonding, and secret relationships.

This is marked Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings, but suffice to say the Izzy/Hornigold relationship (so far only partially glimpsed or understood by POV character Jack) exists in a dark place. When a young Jack is injured saving Hornigold's life during a raid, Hornigold repays him by lending him a young Izzy as nursemaid and general provider of whatever other 'comfort' Jack wants for the course of his recovery. Jack gets to know Izzy better and feelings start to be caught, leading to things getting complicated as their time together grows short. So far, this is one of those stories that balances whump and realism just right for me, and it features a very likeable Jack at a time before all the harsher lessons of life could take their toll. Great writing, and a real sense of time and place on the ship.
