Some more Joe/Nicky recs from where I am slowly making my way through all the wonderful stories. Reminder: I won't be reading or reccing every story due to personal taste! Also, I tend not to rec WIPS. ALL the stories are worth checking out for the gorgeous artwork, regardless!
Title: So Universal a Mixture by spinawren, Art by alby_mangroves
Summary: “To first blood?” Nicolo asks, but even as he says the words his mouth pulls down, rueful, at Yusuf’s raising brows. What is first blood to people like them?
In which duelling to the death becomes the most intimate engagement in the world.
Rec: A beautifully written soulmark story set during the early years when they first start traveling together. It is taken from Yusuf's point of view. Both keep their soulmarks hidden, and both believe their soulmate is dead as the color has drained from the soulmark. They find themselves drawn to each other regardless, find themselves in sync with each other as they duel. Beautiful art by alby_mangroves.
Title: I live on kindness, faith and constant courage by Tam_Cranver, Art by Krimsnkrams
Summary: It's 1150, and Andromache and Quynh's first efforts to introduce Yusuf and Nicolò to immortal life have ended poorly. In hopes of some rest and recovery, and an opportunity to show them a happier side of immortality, Andromache and Quynh take the two men to Provence to meet an old friend and to reflect on their pasts and futures.
Rec: Yusuf and Nicolò have not been journeying that long with Andromache and Quyhn so they are still learning about each other and how to trust one another. The story is set in a moment of peace, giving all them a chance for introspection and to enjoy life, but both men have so many questions and Andy and Quyhn answer some of them. It's an interesting look at the 1150s and the lengths the four have to go in order to fit in and protect their secret. Beautiful art by Krimsnkrams.

Summary: Nicolò’s path has always been clear. As the third son he would become a monk and dedicate his life to the service of God. Nicolò has come to accept that, but when a mysterious stranger is washed up on shore and placed into his care, Nicolò has to fight with the temptation of everything he never knew he could want: companionship, friendship and maybe even more.
Rec: An alternate universe - different beginnings story that is just as plausible as canon, with Nicolò sent to serve in a monastery from a young age but destiny arrives in the form of Yusuf, the only survivor from a merchant ship that sinks during a storm, and who has another secret he is scared to reveal to anyone, even to the man he has come to love with all his heart and soul, Nicolò. The ending is a perfect new beginning. Beautiful art by alby_mangroves.

Summary: Joe died his last death deep underground. He wakes up, thirty-four years later in a body that is more machine than man and no memory of who he is. But he's dreaming of a man being held captive, and even if he doesn't know himself: he knows he needs to save this man. No matter the cost. Meanwhile, Nile is alone. Booker and Quynh are dead, Andy is little more than a voice in a machine, and for ten years Nicky has been held captive by a PharmaTech company eager to exploit him in any way they can. She's leading a revolution to try to bring them down, and the news that someone has found Joe's remains and brought him back to life could not have come at a more inconvenient time.
Rec: I debated on whether to rec this purely because, even though this part is complete, the whole story is NOT finished. The second part (The Ship of Theseus) is halfway written. Howwever, it was a fascinating read with some fantastic worldbuilding of a technological future and how it impacts on The Old Guard. It is hard-hitting on occasions and is a strangely bleak future with people selling themselves to giant tech companies for augmentation - becoming more cyborg than human. Again, with some lovely artwork created by QueenofBadOmens.

Summary: Nicolo is 8 when the generational war that's older than he can comprehend comes to an end and his hand is given to the prince of the nation that had been their oldest enemies. Yusuf is 11 when he first sees the small, quiet boy with a face that seemed to be made of stone. Both of them know that from the moment the treaty is signed their lives are tied together for decades to come. Nicolo is 27 when his father falls ill and his brother begins to unravel the treaty, Yusuf is 30 and scrambling to find a way to keep Nicolo by his side without revealing their secret elopement years before they were supposed to be married. When war tears them apart it's a scramble to find their way back to each other.
Rec: A beautiful love story set in a faraway kingdom(s) where two young boys, betrothed as part of a peace treaty, first learn to like and then fall in love with each other and eventually gain their happy ever after :)
