It's heart wrenching, full of angst, and McCoy focused. It features a badly hurt McCoy, and a realistic recovery, in other words, it is long and hard and people don't instantly get better, like they tend to do in the trek universe. It also has a fantastic friendship between McCoy and Chapel, like seriously some of the best Chapel I've ever read. Funny thing, I accidentally read this as TOS and it completely worked for me.
