Finally finished this one!

leave the ruins where they fall by sharpa (214,400 words)

Post-apocalyptic AU (sort of), featuring incredible world-building and plot, incredible character and relationship development, and some of the most honest and powerful explorations of trauma I've ever read in fic.

Heed the tags and author's notes for warnings!!!

Notes:
This is a very long, very heavy fic, and although the violence (sexual and otherwise) is not graphically described, the experience (and resulting PTSD) is a driving force behind many of the characters' journeys, and is an inescapable presence throughout the whole fic.

That said, there are a great many tender, soft, and triumphant moments throughout, and it is, as a whole, a story about hope and overcoming adversity and oppression of all kinds. So have faith that it ends with everyone in a happier and healthier place than they begin.

Every time I see this fic while scrolling thru my bookmarks I think to myself how IT'LL BE PAINFUL BUT SO GOOD AND WELL-WRITTEN. Hopefuly, I'll get around to actually!reading it.
