Stede Bonnet entered piracy just as the English started cracking down and the East India Company notices that the New World* has a lot of potential for generating a lot of cash. Real history, Jenkinsian history, and a whole lot of epic pirate stuff. And hey, Treasure Island!
*Not, of course, new to the people who already lived there.
