- Murder on the beat by mother_of_lions. ""Captain's log. It's been thirty-five days since the initial Attack." A sigh crackles over the aging recording. "It's been five days since another of Them attacked. We don't know how long they've been on the ship. They could be anyone. Your crew mate, your friend." A Merlin AU mystery unspooled bit by bit, which could have been a much bigger story but is nevertheless alarming and intriguing as some alliances never change.
- Halo Effect by Alex51324. "The Halo Effect is the tendency for a positive impression in one area to produce a more generous or optimistic interpretation of ambiguous information in other areas. When Thomas rescues Lady Mary from the nefarious attentions of Turkish houseguest Kemal Pamuk, his employers and coworkers begin to see him differently...and Things Get Better." Downton Abbey S1 AU that does well with its period setting and goes on to a much longer sequel set during WWI.
- Next Time Around by LamentableComedy. "Several months after breaking up, Merlin and Arthur try to be friends while navigating family relationships, figuring out what they want from their lives, and trying to learn from the past."
I really enjoyed the way they slowly fell back into one another's orbit and each were going through their own things in a non high-drama way. There was something bittersweet about the way their old lives were slowly breaking apart as people headed in different directions that was so true to life. - BBC Merlin by Arden. She has some very nice sketches but my favorite was the painting of Arthur and Merlin riding to Camelot, hands linked.
- How to Win a Debate in Thirteen Easy Steps by junkshopdisco. "Time is running out for the United Albionists to field a candidate to stand for election against Morgause’s harsh regime. It falls to Merlin to find someone. Arthur Pendragon—a lawyer with an impressive streak of magical and worker’s rights victories against the government—seems to fit the bill. Only problem is, the last time Merlin saw him, Arthur had him fired for beating his sister Morgana in a debate." Not many stories exist in a political setting and even fewer do anything to really mine that premise. But this story is about an actual campaign, as well as a Merlin/Morgana aspect that doesn't go as planned.
