Every Thursday, we have a community post, just like this one, where you can drop a rec or five in the comments.

This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget: you can deffo make posts of your own seven days a week. ;D!)

So what cool podfics/fanarts/fanvids/fancrafts/fics/some other kind of fanwork have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

BTW, AI fanworks are not eligible for reccing at recthething. If you aware that a fanwork is AI-generated, please do not rec it here

  1. Reprise Series by Elfpen. Star Wars first trilogy. As much as I enjoy time travel as a story type, I have found there is such a thing as too many of them. So what I really enjoyed about this one is the way it defies expectations.

So many time travel stories are fixits which focus heavily on changing key issues in a timeline. I suspect many a reader feels like Mace does, wondering when Ben will give up his secrets and set new pathways in motion. But I really enjoyed seeing that Ben himself needs help in reconciling himself to this role he's been put in, and healing the damage of the past. And I also really loved how his mission dovetailed with getting a new future in motion. An intriguing read that's all about character development and a reminder that when someone returns to the past, a new future is already in motion and extreme caution is needed.

  2. Gwen's Guide to Happiness by jules_evan (julien_avec_rien). "Gwen's fine. Well, she's okay. She could be happier, in her own opinion. But how does one go about getting happier? Fortunately, she has lots of friends to whom she can pose her question: what's the secret to happiness?" Pretty much what it says on the tin. Yet this fic was wonderfully unusual in its thoughtful approach to the question, matching points of view with the various characters, and being very true to Gwen's character as well. Also, a Merlin fic centered on Gwen! Not to be overlooked.

  3. A Chorus of Ordinary Women by kalima, Star Trek Kelvin verse exploration of how things on Hellguard might have turned out differently. Rather tough subject matter and I skipped ahead in one place, but nonetheless rewarding read with both many OCs and a lot of focus on Spock/Uhura. I think the Epilogue proves how connected one becomes to the new characters.

  4. when you wake by sevenfoxes. Captain America.MCU. Time loops are a favorite trope for me, which means I particularly appreciate it when someone does something different with it. Extended ones are a variation for longer stories but I had yet to run into one where the resets might occur at different points in time instead of the same one. It made the story more of a roads-not-traveled sort of tale than one about correcting particular mistakes. And I loved the ending.

  5. when you make it seem, enchanted by somethingaboutwriting. "In a black-and-white television show with a ridiculously small audience, Merlin reunites with his fiancé Arthur Pendragon in the 1950s. This is completely normal, and has nothing to do with how long Merlin has had to wait for the Once and Future King to return. WandaVision AU" Once I read it, it surprised me that I hadn't already thought about how perfectly the series premise would lend itself to an Arthur returns fic.

The author did a great job making this feel like Star Wars while also having all the staples of Silent Hill.

"A droid vid" by colls. (Star Wars - All Media Types)

Combining both the vids and returned to often prompts, I was reminded of this vid by someone not long ago. And especially now that I've seen S7 of Clone Wars I think it could use an update for our brave droids. I say "update" even though the vid only came out in January!

Nonetheless I love this and have rewatched several times because what would we do without them and what kind of story would that be?

  1. Eclipse by SpellCleaver. "Luke and Leia, the twin children of Darth Vader and heirs to the Emperor himself, defect. When they do, it's naturally a dream come true for the Rebellion and the mother they never knew, one that's been a long time in the making." An epic length story with many a character appearance. What I particularly loved about this was that it's a gen story with an intense relationship between siblings rather than a romantic one.

  2. A late-night Welcome Home. by SleepyKalena. Fanart for Rogue One: "For context, this was a play on the Japanese dub of the Welcome Home scene. Jyn tells Cassian, "I'm always all alone when things go bad, so this feels strange." Cassian responds with "You'll get used to it soon," implying that he'll keep being there for her when things go bad, and that it won't be long until the feeling stops being foreign to her.".

  3. John Watson || Soldier by OneAllysa. I am not generally fond of dialogue in vids but this one uses the bits quite effectively to portray Sherlock's partner as the complicated individual he is, and not always a nice guy either. I like how it also reveals how it's sometimes John who establishes what will happen and how he is not always the caretaker.

  4. Art: Hope is the thing with feathers by
LFB72. A series of works for this Merlin wingfic. Aside from the striking animated Merlin, there are various beautiful watercolour images including Morgana, Aithusa, and a final close up of Merlin and Arthur, bare chested and winged.

  5. for we are a woven thread; find the strand
by shadowsong26. "The night before Obi-Wan was to leave for Utapau, he and Anakin and Padme agreed that, regardless of the Council's orders, Anakin should go as well. They split up over the course of the battle--and when Order 66 is given, they cannot find one another in the chaos; Padme, on Coruscant, is left with the knowledge that neither of them is coming back." It's rather amusing that a threesome pairing spends the entirety of the story separated until the end. But it's an enjoyable read about three people getting on with things, finding support among others, and then having their continued purpose bring their threads together once again.

  1. How Arthur Got His Groove Back by thegeminisage. The premise alone of this story was enough to make this Merlin tale stand out, with magic returning to Camelot by way of a curse giving everyone magical powers. But that was just the start. Readers also got a number of fixits along the way, starting with a believable shift in Morgana. Enjoyable and character centered.

  2. Killing Eve tarot cards by Low Cultured. Riveting fanart of Eve and Villanelle.

  3. Good Omens papercraft by noordze. Delightful look at our two heroes, along with photos of the process.

  4. Legacy by myrlendi (thehistorygeek). "Three months after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker goes in search of a rumoured Jedi temple in a secluded part of the Mid Rim. He finds within the temple nothing but a strange artifact, which unexpectedly brings him much closer to the Jedi of old than he ever thought he would be." What I liked about this time travel story is the way the relationship between Luke and Leia develops, as well as Leia's with Anakin.

  5. kingsman(MerlinAU) fanart by nancymerthurslover. Stunning fanart of the Merlin cast in a Kingsman fusion.
