This is an extremely short post this month because while I've been still wading through years-old fics posted on ff.n (in my small bits of free time not occupied by other projects), I've not actually finished doing so, and I'm doing it on a different computer (because the Linux update of FFDL stupidly required a development version of a library rather than one that was actually found on OSes) so I'm waiting till I've caught up to the present day to dump the lot over to this computer to import into the database.

So I present to you one Matrix fic not from ff.n (or AO3 for that matter) that I had time to read, format an epub of, and add to my database. No special flags, but it does have some things some people would find triggers. If you want to know what themes those are, please comment and I'll be happy to let you know; I'm not including them here because some people like to be surprised. I found it a very good read, intense and emotional, and an interesting take on Trinity's backstory.

Luke smiled, thinking of his first friend. "Well, let's see. You both have enough charisma to sell sand to a Jawa. Flirt as naturally as breathing." Luke reached over, laid a hand on Lando's jaw and ran his thumb across Lando's mustache, skin brushing over Lando's lips as it went. The sensation stayed long after Luke dropped his hand and said, "He even had the same mustache and fondness for capes."

Lando, still lost in the sensation, took a minute to say, "Well, it certainly sounds like you have a type."

This is amazing and I love it. Luke and Lando's characters are so perfectly explored, the yearning is so deep and so heartfelt.

Summary: The sheriff watched him for a moment, then he sighed and turned slightly. He reached out to open a cabinet door beside him, and pulled out a shelf. It was on a track, so it rolled out of the cabinet fairly easily, and held a small CCTV. Derek frowned and inched his chair to the side a little bit so he could get a better angle.

He was looking at a teenager, or someone at least young enough to be the same age as Scott. He was sitting on a bed in what looked to be a larger room, the area he was in surrounded by four glass walls, with his legs crossed and head tilted.

He was also staring directly into the camera, as if he knew someone was watching. A creepy smile slowly slid onto the teen’s face, and he held up one hand, wiggling his fingers in a slow, eery wave.

Derek felt his mouth run dry. He didn’t know who this kid was, but he didn’t like him.

“Who is that?” he asked quietly.

“That,” said the sheriff, “is my son.”

Buffyverse Top 5 session Chosen Not to Fade Away

It's time to pick out your costume, start carving those pumpkins, and decide on goodies to share because it's almost time for the 2021 session of Buffyverse Top 5!

buffyversetop5 gathers recs for all fanworks in the Whedon fandoms. The kickoff for our 16th year is on October 22, 2019 at midnight UTC (click here for your time zone). The session will run across Halloween in all timezones and close on November 2 midnight UTC.

[Vid] St. Elmo's Fire by lilly_the_kid. Such a good recruiter vid for Cobra Kai, and I laughed when Eagle Fang made its appearance. Also such a powerful moment in that line I'd forgotten about: "You broke the boy in me, but you won't break the man."
Reverberations by fanfoolishness (LoonyLupin). "Five times Din and Grogu encounter the dark side, and one time they encounter something altogether different." I liked this idea of Grogu's lessons in the Force, and Din's continued connection to him.
Equilibrium by PSW. "McCoy's transport is destroyed in what appears to be a containment field explosion, leaving no known survivors. The truth, however, is not so simple as that ..." Lengthy, plotty story centered around Spock and McCoy and a number of original characters. Aside from having a gen story to dig into, I appreciated that it didn't end at the point where McCoy rejoins the Enterprise but rather follows the story to a different kind of conclusion.
Hail Mary by galaxysoup. I'm not really reading SPN these days but this storyline not only fixed so much within SPN during its season but gave us a much better ending to the series. Plus, I think Castiel could use some motherly friendship.
They Give It Away by BeatriceEagle. NSFW. "A vid about the women of DC comics" is true enough but it also says a lot about the comic book industry.

I have NOT seen the Matrix: Resurrections trailer yet, so I avoided reading any Matrix fics that mentioned it was based on or inspired by the trailer. I've also not had the opportunity to watch the season openers for any of the FBI shows, so I'm avoiding new FBI and FBI: Most Wanted fic until I can, lol. There were several TFATWS Bucky/Zemo fics in Humiliation Flash, and I really enjoyed them all even though humiliation isn't a kink of mine! So they must be good. All are explicit.

The Order of Desire by Anonymous (3900 wds)
Bucky comes in his pants whenever someone says his name. I am still amazed that the author took a premise like that and got something this sweet, hot, and generally kind-feeling out of it. Feat. consensual power exchange + dirty talk + gagging, bottom!Zemo still being a backtalking, escape-prone asshole, and really adorable and cuddly aftercare.

come so far (moved so little) by Anonymous (5400 wds)
Public sex during the Madripoor episode. Very believable and well-developed fic backdrop, feat. bottom!Bucky and Zemo finding ways to give Bucky an out and generally being kinder than he has to be at this point in canon (but also a total asshole).

Royal Flush by Anonymous (1400 wds)
A lost poker game results in Bucky and Zemo sharing a bed, and I bet you can't even guess what happens in that bed. Bedsharing: always a trope I'm easy for! Feat. sleep-cuddling and sex in the dark.
