On the other side of the moment, those turned to dust may no longer be 'alive', but they're damn well not helpless.

This is the story of how they saved themselves.

Reccer's notes: I started following tielan over a decade ago back in the Stargate fandom, because she is a great author who is especially good at writing female characters and consistently focusing on them. This fic is one of my favorites, it is an amazing response to the mess that is Marvel canon. It's a very different take than other Endgame AUs, but it is masterfully well done and if you like any of the characters who got snapped, you'll probably love this fic.

Every Thursday, we have a community recs post, just like one, where you can drop a rec or two in the comments. This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account to make posts of your own, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget, you're free to make posts seven days a week. :D)

So what cool fic/vid/art have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

  1. Pilots Get It Up Faster by flawedamythyst. Delightful ficlet suggesting how Tony Stark and Cabin Pressure's pilots might have crossed paths.

  2. Playing the Field by this_is_kelly. "Arthur is the star player for Chicago's professional football team. Merlin is on the coaching staff in Montreal. A chance meet-up turns into a one-night stand, but one night ends up not being enough and now they're both in over their heads." I tend to like sports AU stories which is why I downloaded this, but the genre seemed to be chosen mostly for its roadblocks than to explore anything about it. But I was delighted by what it did do. Given their situation, this relationship seemed to develop very realistically given who both of them would be, and it did so in an unsentimental way, which I really appreciate and wish I saw more often.

  3. Star Trek Discovery in the 32nd Century (Buck Rogers Mash-Up) by shyaporn. As described, and a bit of fun for anyone who ever saw both shows.

  4. Bounty by The_Alias (Artemis_Day). "When Jane discovered the secret to harnessing wormholes, the most she expected was a few prestigious prizes and maybe some extra grant money. She did not expect to become the target of a persistent and enigmatic bounty hunter." Aside from a particularly funny moment with Darcy, this fic is just an ongoing battle of wits, which is my favorite way of spending time with Loki and Jane Foster.

  5. It's Still Science Fiction to Me by azurish. "From clones to spaceships to time travel, and silly special effects to cutting edge technology, it’s all part of the genre we love." Truly impressive list of shows and movies included for a genre fan squee fest.

    1. god loves everybody, don't remind me by napricot. "Erik gets a do-over. Erik gets a lot of do-overs. Or: Erik Killmonger's own personal version of Groundhog Day, only with a lot more murder, dying, trips to the ancestral plane, awkward family conversations, and divine intervention." Time loop stories are my favorite trope but I found this one so intriguing. So many stories revolve around critical plot points but fewer delve into the way a character would have to rethink their view on the past, the present, and the future the way that happens here.

    2. Shhh by nancymerthurslover. Wonderfully detailed Merlin artwork of Merlin/Arthur. Partial nudity.

    3. [vid] Grapevine Fires 2.0 by starlady. "An HD remaster of skywaterblue's vid, which is no longer available online." I really enjoyed the original vid (and am lucky to have a saved copy) so I was intrigued to see this pop up. "Overall the vid hits somewhat different in 2020 now that the original Trek timeline lives and the AOS films' future is in doubt, but I think the message about beginnings and endings in a beloved franchise resonates no matter which timeline we're in."

    4. The Incident of the Fellow in the Fellow's Garden by Azdak. "Lord Peter visits an old friend at Cambridge and finds himself caught up in shady dealings as the worlds of academia and espionage collide." Crossover with Man from UNCLE. Although I've only read a bit of Dorothy L. Sayers this struck me as really capturing the voices and tone of the books, plus I was very curious to see how the crossover would function. I was really delighted at being able to read a mystery story as there are few of them in fanfic, even though many a canon is centered around case stories.

    5. Chaos War by astolat. Speaking of mysteries, what I really liked about this was that it was a mystery type of plot. But it's a mystery mostly because we're in Thor's POV and he can't understand Loki's reasoning. What makes the story so great is that Loki is a master planner and I really enjoyed seeing his strategy unspool bit by bit. I personally thought the slash bits were unnecessary in the story, I didn't feel they added much, but how Loki and Thor relate to one another is front and center.
