Bangtaning into 2021

* Through The Looking Glass by qarameiio - An AU in which photographer!Taehyung is mesmerized by painter!Yoongi who is currently working in his studio. I love the hints at the canon of Yoongi painting (even down the detail of his clothes) AND of Taehyung in his photographer!mode. It's a wistful piece and I love it.

* What I Did On My Summer Vacation, by Kim Namjoon, Age 18 ½ by Runchrandom (Explicit, OT7, 69.5k) - By day, RM is a quiet guy who works part-time at the local library. By night, he's one of the fiercest rappers in the underground scene.
One day, he runs afoul of someone who has a gang...

I know that, between the premise and some of the TW/CW, this fic might sound like it's a dark and angsty story. But, although there are some moments that might make you cringe, the overall vibe leans more toward a more comedic tone. Even better, zero canon knowledge is required.

TW/CW: physical violence (some people get tortured off-screen), murder, relationships involving an underage character (Jungkook is 16 years old, everyone else is in their late teens and early 20s.)



* All of These Dreams (Keep Coming Back to Me Slowly) by orphan_account (Explicit, Namjoon/Jimin, 78k) - A canon divergent AU set sometime right before or around the Wings era in which BTS ends up disbanding. A somber Jimin moves back to Busan post-military service and tries to figure out his next move. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Namjoon gets an email that makes him wonder how things are back home…

NGL, I'm a sucker for that subgenre of fics that address both what will happen when the BTS dudes enlist as well as the eventual (?) disbandment of the group. In this case, it seems like almost everyone's post-BTS lives are fulfilling--except for Jimin's.

I really like the slow pacing in both the guys reconnecting as well as the romance between RM and Jimin. What made this fic worthy of a rec is how much of a canon divergent universe it it since in it BTS disbands sometime around 2018 or so. It's a really cool "What If…?" type of story.

TW/CW: discussion of depression and anxiety; discussions of a major injury (including the healing process).

Reccer's notes: This artist makes beautiful moodboards/aesthetics. I am in awe at how well they choose images and how their colours seem to blend together seamlessly. They made me this SPN Benny/Dean moodboard for my fandomtrees, which they have have not posted to their tumblr yet, but I love it so much. However, all their work is lovely, so I wanted to share all of it.

“Who are you?” the Lan boy facing him asks, tilting his head. He’s got a hand on his sword, but he hasn’t drawn it yet. There’s a faint frown on his face. “Some kind of face-stealing spirit? A demon?”

“Pretty rude to go around calling people demons,” Wei Yuan protests. (aka the Parent Trap AU that you never knew you needed but will absolutely love)

Summary snippet: In which Wei Ying, a fugitive from justice, sneaks into the palace, steals from the imperial family, and eats his words. AKA, yet another Cinderella AU. (This takes place in a very interesting magic/sorcery world rather than cultivation one and is a delightful read)

Summary: In which Wei Wuxian and his two favorite kids just wanted to help his younger brother chill through the power of pint-sized hugs (from the kids) and projectiles aimed straight at Jiang Cheng's face (from Wei Wuxian), but he fails to take into account the importance of aiming and decent observational skills. (absolutely, incredibly adorable modern AU)

The Losers/The Old Guard crossover (I think this could be read with only the most basic of knowledge about the fandoms)

Summary: Spec ops is like any other world. Hang around for long enough, and it has a culture, fucked up as it may be, and it has stories. Some of them are about ghosts. (Amazing look at the myth that might surround The Old Guard from a military/special forces perspective and what might result. Also a great look at Nicky and Joe from an outside POV)

Summary: After the Ceremonial Duel, Marik leaves Egypt to see the world.

Marik and Ryou figure out how to get on with their lives after Marik's evil alter ego and the Spirit of the Ring are both gone. The epistolary aspect is done really well, and it presents an interesting window into Marik's psyche as he drifts through the world and tries to figure out human connections and interpersonal relationships. I also really like the writing style.
