[personal profile] glitteryv posting in [community profile] recthething
Every Thursday, we have a community post, just like this one, where you can drop a rec or two in the comments. This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account to make posts of your own, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget, you're free to make posts seven days a week! :D)

So what cool fic/vid/art have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

The Bear and The Blackbird by UniversalSatan
Word Count: 28123 words
Fandom: Star Trek: TOS
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Kirk/Spock/McCoy, McCoy/Spock, Minor Chapel/Uhura
Summary: Jim, a chivalrous knight born-farmboy, embarks on a valiant quest to return home and protect his village from a dragon threat. On his journey, he is accompanied by his friend Spock—a bard sprite—and the friendly stranger Bones—a holy saint—who only seek to ensure Jim's protection.
When Jim is kidnapped in the night as neither sprite or saint are looking, Spock and Leonard must put aside their differences in the unforseen quest to find their friend
Reccer's Note: Did you ever wonder what would happen if you took the TOS characters and plopped them down in the middle of a classic fairy tale? The author does a nice job of it here, Jim is a classic knight going on a valiant quest with his supernatural companions. McCoy is a spectral saint in this piece, and I think this might the first time I've ever read a story where a dead saint goes on an adventure to help those who pray to him. The majority of the fic is focused on the Spock/McCoy relationship, as they have to work together to save Jim, but the story is peppered with cameo appearances from other members of the bridge crew, and whenever they showed up it would make me smile. Also, because this is a big bang fic there is a couple of pieces of lovely artwork with it, but if you get the chance click through to the artist's page where they have a larger portrait of the characters.

Relationships: Dean/Benny
Summary: Canon-divergent AU, (very) loosely inspired by the Ballad of Tam Lin. While on a hunt with John, Dean discovers a mysterious mirror in a witch's attic, and finds himself transported to the world of Faerie. On the other side, he meets somebody who's been stuck there much longer than him. Somebody who makes him reconsider everything he's been taught about trusting monsters, and a few things about himself that he’s been denying. But Benny's a favourite pet of the King of Fairyland, and their budding relationship seems doomed. Years later, Dean finds himself back among the fae—and a second chance to save Benny may just be a chance to save the world.
Reccer's Note: A pre-canon Dean gets pulled into the magical land of the fae, but the fairies in this stories are not nice, and he his protected by Benny. Essentially it ponders what if Dean and Benny met under different circumstances. This is such a nice mix of SPN and a fairy tale, and it seems plausible, considering other worlds, the fae, and portals all exist in canon.
