Fandom: Dimension 20: A Court of Fey & Flowers
Ship: Andhera/K.P. Hob
Medium: Art
Length: 1 piece
Rating: Teen/SFW
My Tags: drama, romance, ambiguous ending, getting together, enemies to lovers, blades, competence, injury, touch
Artist's Caption: do you think love can bloom, even on a battlefield?

Description:
A full-colour drawing of Hob (a bugbear and veteran soldier) kneeling astride a prone Andhera (an archfey prince of the Unseelie Court), pinning him down and holding a sword to his throat. Head turned in surrender, Andhera has a hand pressed to Hob's chest, over his heart.

The backstory of Hob and Andhera first having met on the battlefield, with Hob having bested the young enemy prince but spared him, is what first piqued my interest about where these two's dynamic would go—and the subsequent physicality of their friendship in light of both their established desires for touch had me shipping them from the moment they started wrestling and sparring. This is a fantastic piece that lives in that liminal space between the intimacy of violence and the intimacy of attraction, and in the parallels between the rules of engagement for warfare and the rules of engagement for courtship.

Further Negotiations Amongst the Penguins by [archiveofourown.org profile] starfishstar
Fandom: John Finnemore's Double Acts: Penguin Diplomacy
Ship: George Bunning/Søndergaard
Medium: Fic
Length: 2404 words
Rating: General
My Tags: romance, happy ending, getting together, script, proposals, domesticity, animals, science
Author's Summary: Stuck inside on a stormy night, Søndergaard and Bunning talk about divorce, love, loneliness, and what it takes to build a nest together. They’re talking about the penguins. Obviously.

Excerpt:
BUNNING: And when they go out to sea, once they’re done nesting for the season...do they always stay in their pairs? Seems like that would be a rather crowded life for a penguin, never getting to go off on one’s own.

SØNDERGAARD: Oh, no, no, they’re very independent! Well, I can’t speak to any other sorts of penguins, but lancelot penguins allow one another a great deal of independence. For much of the year, they swim off to wherever they like. It’s only that they know there’s a mate they can return to, back on land, when it’s time to build a nest again. Someone to come home to, as it were.

BUNNING: (QUIETLY) What a striking thought.

For those not familiar with it, Penguin Diplomacy is a half-hour radio play from 2017, set in the South Atlantic just after WWII. It involves a British government official both getting into an international incident with and befriending an eccentric Dane who has laid claim to a small island while studying the penguins there. This story nails the charm and comedy of the original as it picks up shortly post-canon with Bunning paying a social call to Søndergaard and his little lancelot penguins (all named for film stars of the day, including male couple Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne, who are raising a chick together) and seamlessly takes the original's romantic subtext into the realm of requited love. It's the sort of note-perfect "everything I wanted" sequel that I sometimes forget isn't official.

Cream Tea and Sympathy by sam_ptarmigan ([archiveofourown.org profile] Delphi)
Dori/various, series, 35k total. Vignettes and short stories from the Amethyst Tea House (seating by reservation only, menu available upon request, gratuity required for parties larger than one). This is a series of short fics about a dwarf setting up an upscale one-person sex work establishment called a tea house. I think what I love most about it is the tropeyness combined with the absolute commitment to canon worldbuilding flavor. Quiet, sweet, both porn and the logistics of running a business. A warm cozy read!!

Typeset of Persist and Dwell by [archiveofourown.org profile] c_art
A while back, [archiveofourown.org profile] fencesit wrote me a very cool GF ghostly genfic, and for FIAB last year, c_art made this beautiful typeset version of it. The typesetting includes the actual text in book form, plus endpapers and wonderful charming illustrations, which really make the whole experience IMO. At the link there are several options to view the actual typeset work. Just extremely cool.

Untitled Fang/Izzy Hands by [tumblr.com profile] ajjiwannabeyourdog2
Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Ship: Fang/Izzy Hands
Medium: Art
Length: 1 piece
Rating: Mature/NSFW
My Tags: romance, happy ending, established relationship, intimacy, cuddling, touch, frottage, scars, tattoos

Description:
A monochromatic drawing of Izzy and Fang in bed together, Izzy in his underwear and Fang covered from the waist down by bedsheets—and by Izzy's body, as Izzy sits straddling his lap. Izzy is making a faint "ngh" sound, his hands on Fang's shoulders. Fang has his arms around Izzy's back and is smiling softly. Both of them are flushed and have shut their eyes, their faces nuzzling close together as they hold each other.

A delicious drawing that's chock-full of characterization and intimacy, with particularly lovely details on Fang's tattoos and Izzy's flogging scars.

Song: "Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt" by We Are Scientists

Excerpt:
My body is your body / I won't tell anybody
If you want to use my body / Go for it

A hilarious and transformative compilation of some of the earlier seasons' kinkiest task attempts, playing with the fact that Alex Horne is the creator of the show but has cast himself in the role of a hapless assistant ordered into humiliating situations by the host and contestants.

Read a story, once. Man walks into an emergency room. Doctor inquires to his complaint. Man says he did not come of his own will, but at the urging of his friends. Doesn't know why. He is in no pain, suffers no ill health.

"Well then," says the doctor, "there's no reason for you to stay."

The man turns to go, at which point the doctor sees the knife sticking out of his back.

A sharp and brilliant short comic about childhood trauma and adult relationships.

yourlibrarian: Phryne & Jack Profile (MISSFISH-Phryne&JackProfile - sexycazzie)

  1. The Legend Of Liob by Killbothtwins. "The Republic sends a combat photographer to be attached to the 212th until further notice, citing the need for a morale boost. The clones make up a fake clone, citing the absolute fact that it is very funny. Somehow, these two things save the galaxy." Of all the ways in which Palpatine and Order 66 get defeated, this was probably the most entertaining. I love how bureaucracy saves the day!

  2. Failsafes by Luna (lunasky). Time loop stories are a favorite of mine but it's intriguing how so many writers manage to do something a little different with their stories. In this Stargate Atlantis tale, the way it's told is a part of the appeal, the choppy, somewhat disoriented nature matching what's going on in the characters' heads. But best of all is the kicker of an ending.

  3. World Enough And Time by laiqualaurelote. "1929 is going terribly for Jack Robinson, who is about to be suspended for trying to do his job. Then a glamorous time-travelling alien crashes his ex-wife's wedding, absconds with his feelings, and whisks him out of 1929 altogether. After all, there's a whole world out there. A Doctor Who AU" Even thought I am not a Who watcher, I found this Miss Fisher tale delightful reading.

  4. Nerds of the Earth, take note! by Betty, Emeraldwoman. Alec Hardison is kidnapped by SHIELD and gets to really test his skills. Fun Leverage/MCU crossover idea.

  5. Sufficiently Advanced by idlestories. "Merlin is the best hacker in the galaxy, thanks to the illegal technology in his brain that lets him connect directly to computers. After taking a step back from Morgause and her ruthless brand of revolution, he’s alone and jaded, drifting through the system and targeting the rich and powerful. Arthur is the secret son of justice minister Uther Pendragon, hidden from the public eye all his life after the death of his mother at the hands of revolutionaries." Although possibly stuck with the last 2-3 chapters yet to go, this story has plenty of setup and one of the most convincing portrayals of a Merlin in a space AU that I've yet seen.

A friend of mine recently asked me to create a couple posts of recs from my database for her - emotional and physical hurt/comfort, and excluding any fics tagged with incest or crack/parody. She also wanted ALL of the themes (tropes and more) listed underneath so it would be very spoilery.

If that appeals to you at all - my previous posts have avoided potential spoilers via the tags - you are also welcome to browse them. I thought it might be useful to link them here:
