This works great if you only have one rec and don't want to make a whole post for it, or if you don't have a DW account, or if you're shy. ;)

(But don't forget: you can deffo make posts of your own seven days a week. ;D!)

So what cool fanvids/podfics/fancrafts/fanart/other kinds of fanworks have we discovered this week? Drop it in the comments below. Anon comment is enabled.

  1. Full Disk Burn by fallintosanity (yopumpkinhead). Murderbot takes a backstage tour of a serial and winds up in an unexpected adventure. I enjoyed the interactions with Art and their observations.

  2. Ordinary Life by speranza and astolat. The dialogue and banter between John and Rodney was excellent and kept the story moving right along. Amusing and action packed.

  3. From the Shadows to the Light by PeaceHeather. Merlin post-S5 fic where everyone lives...everyone. As with many stories that are this long there is a lot of repetitive character thoughts and circular writing that could have been cut out. It could have been about a third shorter, in fact. That said, I enjoyed both the story ideas and the original characters, and I think this did quite a good job in taking us from what we got in canon to where it should have gone. The story balances both Arthur and Merlin and getting them mentally and emotionally to a point where they could truly work together. I do wish, given the story's length, that we could have gotten more of that but I think it left off in a place where we could see everything coming together.

  4. floating, sinking by shuofthewind. Another "everybody lives" story, this picks up from the destruction of Scarif to characters in bacta tanks and in a bad way. Nonetheless Jyn is obsessed with getting the plans into the Alliance's hands given Leia's capture. Another lengthy story I thought dragged on a bit too long, but then I'm also not a shippy reader for the fandom. There is a fair amount of suspense in terms of seeing the team finally meet up with the soon-to-be-heroes of the Rebellion aboard the Death Star, and I thought it did a good job of melding the grimmer view of Rogue One with the more optimistic one of New Hope.

  5. An Ever-Fixed Mark by AMarguerite. Soulmark AU of Pride and Prejudice. I thought the tone and characterizations were really enjoyable and the long road to conclusion an enjoyable one to follow.

  1. The Legend Of Liob by Killbothtwins. "The Republic sends a combat photographer to be attached to the 212th until further notice, citing the need for a morale boost. The clones make up a fake clone, citing the absolute fact that it is very funny. Somehow, these two things save the galaxy." Of all the ways in which Palpatine and Order 66 get defeated, this was probably the most entertaining. I love how bureaucracy saves the day!

  2. Failsafes by Luna (lunasky). Time loop stories are a favorite of mine but it's intriguing how so many writers manage to do something a little different with their stories. In this Stargate Atlantis tale, the way it's told is a part of the appeal, the choppy, somewhat disoriented nature matching what's going on in the characters' heads. But best of all is the kicker of an ending.

  3. World Enough And Time by laiqualaurelote. "1929 is going terribly for Jack Robinson, who is about to be suspended for trying to do his job. Then a glamorous time-travelling alien crashes his ex-wife's wedding, absconds with his feelings, and whisks him out of 1929 altogether. After all, there's a whole world out there. A Doctor Who AU" Even thought I am not a Who watcher, I found this Miss Fisher tale delightful reading.

  4. Nerds of the Earth, take note! by Betty, Emeraldwoman. Alec Hardison is kidnapped by SHIELD and gets to really test his skills. Fun Leverage/MCU crossover idea.

  5. Sufficiently Advanced by idlestories. "Merlin is the best hacker in the galaxy, thanks to the illegal technology in his brain that lets him connect directly to computers. After taking a step back from Morgause and her ruthless brand of revolution, he’s alone and jaded, drifting through the system and targeting the rich and powerful. Arthur is the secret son of justice minister Uther Pendragon, hidden from the public eye all his life after the death of his mother at the hands of revolutionaries." Although possibly stuck with the last 2-3 chapters yet to go, this story has plenty of setup and one of the most convincing portrayals of a Merlin in a space AU that I've yet seen.

  1. (extra)ordinary men by PetraPan. A Merlin adaptation of the 2015 film The Last Witch Hunter. This fusion worked quite well with the existing characters and I particularly enjoyed the roles Gaius and Mordred got to play. It was a treat to have the whole story fleshed out in a novella length story as so often these kinds of fusions are short.

  2. From the Top by garamonder. Takes Peter B. Parker from Into the Spiderverse into the MCU to come across its Peter Parker. Across many days he comes to realize why having a team would be a real asset.

  3. 99 Problems by John Jay. Snappy vid focusing on Ben Kenobi's saber skills across movies and TV shows. Some lovely little edit matches and a nice ending to it all.

  4. Black Helicopters at Dawn by whizzy. A semi self-exiled Rodney picks up a curious transmission and ends up befriending a stranded pilot. I really enjoyed the Sheppard and McKay voices, and was entertained by the story as it unspooled. Also a big thumbs up for its continuation Black Mountainside.

  5. Mountains and Badgermolehills by Glass_Onion. "After the Blue Spirit frees the Avatar from the Pohuai Stronghold, Admiral Zhao captures Prince Zuko under suspicion of treason. Isolated from his Uncle and his crew, Zuko has only one ally: the chatty prisoner one cell over."

I laughed so much in the early chapters of this, Zuko and Sokka make for such a funny team. Although I felt Zuko was a little too woobified by the end, the story is a great approach to how Zuko could come to see the world in a different way.

  1. I’m a Ruler by Shohreh Aghdashloo. I celebrated finishing The Expanse by watching this vid of Chrisjen Avasarala, certainly one of the most compelling characters in any series. Also, one of my favorites. Would that we could all rely on someone like Chrissy.

  2. Gwen on the Throne by headfirrstforhalos. Magnificent portrait of the Once and Future Queen.

  3. Darth Vader Goes to Therapy by LadyVader23. Luke becomes a therapist rather than a Jedi and then is the only one willing to take on a most difficult and dangerous client. Starts out intending to be cracky but winds up being a more serious, if often hilarious story.

  4. Masters of War (Pegasus Rising Remix) by bironic. Stargate Atlantis vid that looks at the impact the Pegasus expedition had on the cultures they encountered.

  5. Once and Future by zazrichor. Stunning artwork of Merlin bestowing kingship on Arthur.

  1. Fools of Us All story by adelagia, read by FayJay. Although I enjoy podfic I tend to have few listening hours, so some have been sitting on my computer for some time. I cringed at the idea that this one might no longer be available. An amusing Merlin/Arthur story, it goes straight into hilarious thanks to FayJay's performance of it. An absolute delight, it's a perfect exhibit of why podfic can make a story truly memorable.

The fact that a number of podfics were lost after a site hack is bad enough, but when I couldn't at first track this one down, it's particularly criminal that so many such fanworks have been lost.

  2. gangster AU/suits and baddass by nancymerthurslover. Aside from great looks, I am particularly thrilled to see fanart including Lancelot and Gwaine as well as Merlin and Arthur.

  3. Explorer by RainbowLily. The wonderful expression of awe on Joann's face really grabbed me. ST: Discovery fanart.

  4. Rodney and John by the Water by Luluxa. I love their expressions and the tone of the artwork. SGA fanart.

  5. The Living and the Dead by Downey Stark. I'd been wondering for some time why there weren't a slew of constructed reality vids between Merlin and The Living and the Dead (or even Damien and Merlin for that matter). The setup is perfect for a haunted Merlin and a returning Arthur. But at least one person has, and demonstrates the various possibilities for this crossover.

  6. conjure magic lightsaber by clanofsuns. Lovely fan art of how Luke and Grogu might battle together.

(All fic) These are my favorites--at least, the ones on AO3.

Syllepsis, by Paian (Stagate SG-1)
Daniel is working alone at Jack's house when Jack's ex-wife turns up. Sara recognizes the truth about Jack and Daniel's relationship immediately. Her conversations with Daniel and then Jack are beautiful and moving and cathartic. The Jack/Daniel sex that follows is gorgeously written.

Lovely and Tatters, by Martha  (The Sentinel, Stargate SG-1, Angel:The Series, Cthulhu mythos)
I don't like horror. At all. But horror by Martha is an exception, and exceptional. This series actually starts with Unsleeping, set in The Sentinel, which introduces the Lovecraftian element. But I love the SG-1, Sentinel, and Angel teams and the way they interact. Marha shows us a Daniel Jackson hurt and on the run, lets Jim and Blair come to his rescue, calls in SG-1, and then brings Angel and his team in to confront the apocalypse. The relationship between Jack and Daniel is tender and sexy, as is the relationship between Jim and Blair. The Angel team is as weird and funny and heroic as always. But the best thing about this series is the way it shows us how these very different people look to each other.

freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose, by synecdochic (Stargate Atlantis)
Post-series. John is dead. Rodney has to build a life in academia without him. He struggles, not just for a bearable life but for a meaningful way to share the lessons he has learned with his proteges. Stunningly smart, beautiful story.

September Song, by Kat Allison (Highlander)
The world is slowly sliding toward the end times. Methos visits Duncan's barge in Paris to talk and to make love in the face of apocalypse. Given our times, this cuts to the bone. Read it anyway. It's a genuine classic.

The Unvictorious Ones, by quercus (Stargate SG-1)
The Tollans ask Daniel Jackson to help assess the conditions on a planet where ethnic cleansing is reminiscent of the Cambodian horrors. Jack and Paul Davis accompany Daniel. There's a dreamy quality to this story that helps to alleviate the terrors of what the men witness. This is an idealized Daniel whom Jack deeply loves, which may be why Jack is the one who is most traumatized by their experience.

grounded, by Pares/kormantic (Stargate SG-1)
By now you need some humor. This is my favorite. It's Jack/Daniel, and it's sexy, smart, and funny. I love it.

I love crossovers!

(I'm talking about the kind where characters from different fandoms interact; not fusions/AUs.)

MCU is my main fandom, so MCU/anything-not-Marvel-related would be awesome to read. Any ships or characters or lengths welcome. It's fine if it's a WIP or permanently abandoned, too. I'll take anything!
