An extension of thisbluespirit's fic (which is also excellent) that is a lot of fun! And then it hits you. The characterisation is so on point.

A bizarre and hard to follow story. However, it is very atmospheric, and the prose is wonderful. It's one of those stories that takes you for a ride basically.

This started as a comment on the weekly community recs post but it got a bit long, so I decided to turn it into a proper post for the comm!

Friends at the Table fandom always has amazing fanart but it's been an even greater feast for my eyes than usual lately because a) a fan (wereshrew-admirer) arranged an FATT Pinup Week last month and b) there've been some wild developments in canon that really got people's creative juices flowing. Here are a few pieces from tumblr that I'm obsessed with.

Most of these are from the show's space seasons (with a couple pinups of Pickman from Sangfielle thrown in) so if anyone reading this is canon-blind but happens to love fun, vibrant alien designs and/or giant mecha, these may appeal to you too.

Aria/Jacqui by wereshrew-admirer - Now THIS is a Jacqui Green. Her shoulders 👀
Mustard Red + "a hint of violence" by aglennco - Incredible art of the Brink Proxy's worst weirdgirl.
Grand Magnificent + "entangled" + "lingerie" by wereshrew-admirer - I love everything here, from Grand's expression/posture to the little easter eggs thrown in (his tattoos, what he's working on).
Pickman + "lingerie" by laminatednewspaper - Her expression! Her bulk! Those girls who desperately want to spend time with her!
Pickman + "a hint of violence" by wereshrew-admirer - The colours and her "just-got-woken-up" look are fabulous here.
Tender Sky + "entangled" by madetolooklikeus - I love those soft watercolours so much.

Brnine and Gucci by guccigarantine - I can't stop staring at those faces, the expressions are SO evocative of a moment in canon that made me pause and rewind three entire times before I could finish the episode.

Belltower vs. Saint Dawn by damage-ko - "A mecha fight with romantic tension" indeed!
Brnine, haunted by violentandmagnificent - Those colours are so good I want to taste them.
A few Phrygian pieces by guccigarantine - Absolutely outstanding Phrygian! The frog war form is especially big-brained.
Cori and Devotion by luketaluketa - The scale! The colours! The claustophobia of it! It's beautiful and so unsettling.

Recs for a Strange Empire vid and an OW fic at my journal!

360-degree feedback. by bysine. Gen. Doctor Strange-Shang-Chi crossover where Wong is haunted by Wenwu. Fills in some blanks in an amusing way. I really enjoyed spending time with Wong and finding out more about him and Mordo.

This Crude Matter by rain_sleet_snow. Gen. "In a ramshackle trading post on Jakku, Baze and Chirrut find a girl who sings with the Force, and who knows only two things for sure. One: her name is Rey. Two: her family will return for her." Loved this take on what TFA could have been, seeing the Rogue crew on a different path, and a more fulfilled childhood for Rey.

Another Life by LullabyKnell. Gen. "In one moment, James T. Kirk is the acting captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, on his way home to Earth after stopping the Narada. In the next moment, without explanation, James T. Kirk is an Academy cadet on academic probation again, barely a day before Nero will destroy Vulcan." Great read, with a few twists and some extended thoughts about what it means when everything doesn't go wrong after all.

The Peter Tingle by igrockspock. Gen. Fun encounters between Yelena and Peter Parker post-Hawkeye and Spiderman No Way Home.

the ship in port is the safer one (but it's not the reason it was made) by KiaraSayre. Gen. "The Enterprise's first mission is a boring one. Luckily, the ship more or less makes its own trouble, including: stills, toilet paper, lighting issues, awkward crewmembers, lunchroom seating politics, and, of course, the Admiralty."

Aside from the amusing bits, the thing I most enjoyed about this Kelvin verse story is that the problems in it seemed SO REALISTIC. This is exactly how organizations function and it's absolutely great to see it. It's the sort of story one could base a whole series around.

Short but sweet. A nice view of what happened after Susan left, how she adapts to her new life.
